After fire, water or smoke damage, deciding what to move and what may be recovered is part of rebuilding. Mastodon Moving provides damage determination, documented packout, contents cleaning and storage for homes and businesses across Greater Boston and MetroWest, coordinated from our Westborough facility.

Damage determination and a documented inventory

Our team assesses belongings to identify what may be restored before contents leave the property. Site documentation includes 360-degree photos and video using Ricoh Theta X and Encircle contents management software. Inventory records support policyholders, insurance adjusters and restoration teams through removal, storage and packback.

Items identified as non-salvageable are documented separately, including brands, ages and values for the claim. This is a record of the contents, not a promise about the insurer’s coverage or settlement.

Packout and cleaning after smoke, soot or water exposure

Salvageable contents are inventoried, labeled, packed and transported away from the repair area. Smoke-affected china, soot-covered furniture and antiques, and water-affected documents require assessment to determine whether cleaning is appropriate. Suitable contents can receive cleaning and deodorization at our facility. Recovery depends on the item and damage; not every item can be returned to pre-loss condition.

For water or sewer incidents, contents removal is coordinated with remediation work to reduce continued exposure. We handle the contents process; discuss property repairs and site readiness with your restoration team.

Storage while the property is repaired

After cleaning and checking suitable items, contents are repacked and stored until return. Our 34,000 sq ft climate-controlled Westborough facility provides inventoried, monitored storage. The stored items and room labels remain part of planning the return.

Insurance coordination and packback

We coordinate site access, documentation and timing with policyholders, adjusters and restoration contractors. Packback is the return delivery of contents when repaired rooms are ready. Plan the room order and protect access areas during the return, rather than assuming everything can come back at once.
