Tips for Moving into a Studio Apartment

Moving into a studio apartment can certainly be a challenge. After all, the average size of a studio in Boston is 536 square feet. This isn’t a whole bunch of space to work with, but it can be done! You just have to think big with a small space, and do your best to utilize every nook and cranny effectively. Check out some of our tips for maximizing your new space.
1.) Declutter
Fitting all of your important possessions inside of your new studio might prove a bit difficult. After all, you only have so much space. So, unfortunately, some things might have to go. Keeping clutter at bay is essential to living in a limited space, because not only does clutter make the space appear smaller, but it also takes up valuable square footage. If moving has you short on finances, you can opt to sell some of your belongings, and make some money while clearing up space in your apartment. If you prefer to donate instead of sell, charities and thrift stores are always an option.
2.) Take Advantage of Vertical Space
Using vertical space to your advantage is crucial to living in any small studio. Instead of horizontal shelves that sit low to the ground, choose a tall vertical shelf. Or, you can opt for a floor to ceiling bookshelf to house a whole bunch of items. Objects such as books, electronics, and even a television can find a home on such shelves. Using tiered storage racks is also recommended, particularly in the kitchen.
3.) Multitasking Furniture
While living in a studio isn’t quite like living in a tiny home, or at least it shouldn’t be, your furniture should multitask. You can utilize a storage trunk as a coffee table, or use the storage space within a bench to house blankets and other linens. Benches also serve as great places to store shoes. There are also bed frames with various built in draws available. Choose furniture that not only works for you, but works to help you comfortably store all of your necessary items.
Moving is stressful enough without thinking about where you’re going to put everything upon arriving at your new apartment.
