Mastodon Moving Helps Jane Doe Inc. Raise Awareness for Abusive Relationships

Your favorite Boston area moving company is back at it again helping the community. Mastodon Moving LLC has teamed up with Jane Doe Inc. – a statewide sexual and domestic violence coalition to promote the safety and dignity of victims – to give awareness to men about abusive relationships. Their campaign is called “Displays of Character: Men Reimagining Manhood.”

The traveling exhibit was kicked off by Jane Doe Inc.’s White Ribbon Day Campaign that took place on March 3rd. The campaign focuses on men from all walks of life from all across the state. All of these White Ribbon Day ambassadors will strive to help other men create better relationships with women.

Lending a Helping Hand

After the WRD kickoff on March 3rd, Mastodon Moving LLC helped Jane Doe Inc. set up their displays in the Massachusetts State House in downtown Boston. The six month long traveling informational exhibit will seek to make an impact on opinions regarding sexual abuse and domestic violence.

The displays will only be in one location for a couple weeks at a time before Mastodon Moving LLC moves them to another location. The displays will be placed in town halls, libraries, schools and community centers – the exact future locations have yet to be announced.

JJ Przybylski, owner of Mastodon Moving LLC, has helped the greater Boston community in the past. The Wayland-based full service moving company has volunteered at book drives, electronic disposal events and regularly donates to various charities both local and national. Helping Jane Doe Inc.’s cause, however, is more than just community service for Przybylski.

Striving for a Better Future

On July 3, 2011 one of Przybylski’s former Wayland High School classmates became a victim of domestic violence. Lauren Astley’s death by her former boyfriend a month after their high school graduation rocked the entire Wayland community. Her parents have since become state and nation-wide advocates for spreading awareness about abusive relationships. Lauren’s father Malcolm Astley is active with the Jane Doe Inc. coalition and works closely with Craig Norberg-Bohm, the Men’s Initiative coordinator.

“Because of his tragedy, he has a platform and people are interested in what he has to say,” said Norberg-Bohm. “Is it just about this boy and girl or something bigger and broader? Malcolm has drawn the conclusion that it’s something bigger and broader.”

To help both Jane Doe Inc. and the Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund, Mastodon Moving LLC hopes that the campaign geared towards men has a lasting impact on the entire commonwealth. They look forward to coordinating closely with Jane Doe Inc. in the coming months.
