How to Make a New Apartment Feel like Home

  • #Apartment Moving
  • Moving into a new apartment is exciting, daunting, and nerve-wracking all at once. Whether it’s your first time moving out on your own or if you’ve moved many times, there’s always this sense of not being “home” when you first get to your new place. The surroundings are different, the walls usually aren’t the same color, and the apartment just doesn’t smell as nice as your old one. All of these things can be changed, of course, but let’s take a look at what you can do to feel more comfortable once you’re moved into your new home.

    Unpack Right Away

Nothing makes your new apartment feel less like home than having cardboard boxes strewn everywhere. So, try your best to unpack as quickly as possible. Just be sure to remain aware while your unpacking because it can be easy for possessions to get lost in folds of packing paper. It would feel less like home without your favorite things now, wouldn’t it?

    Decorate

Hanging up artwork and photographs instantly makes your space feel comfier. Seeing familiar artwork hanging on the walls, or pictures of your family and friends can do wonders. Lighting is important too, so set up your table lamps for some nice ambiance. Choosing to put out candles can help instill scents you enjoy into the apartment, and arranging plants can immediately help the space feel more put together.

    Mix and Match Furnishings

Bringing your favorite chair, bookshelf, or silverware automatically brings the feeling of your old home into your new one. Including new furniture, if your budget allows, can also help bring your new space together. Perhaps you couldn’t wait to get rid of your old love seat, so purchasing a new one upon moving to your new place can instill a sense of accomplishment in getting rid of the old one. A new space calls for some new furniture items, but spreading old furniture throughout the new apartment can be immensely comforting.
